Trauma and PTSD

The event ended. The alarm did not.

Trauma and PTSD therapy in Wilmington, Delaware, and by telehealth statewide, with talk, somatic, and mindfulness work used together.

Trauma is not only what happened. It is what the body kept doing afterward to stay safe — the scanning, the bracing, the sleep that never fully arrives, the reaction that is three sizes larger than the moment that caused it.

Trauma work is the center of this practice, and Swiyah is known for her work on healing generational trauma: the patterns a family learned in order to survive and then handed forward without meaning to.

What people describe

  • Being on alert with no clear reason for it.
  • Sleep that breaks, or dreams that return to the same place.
  • Avoiding a place, a person, or a conversation to stay steady.
  • Feeling numb, or watching yourself from outside.
  • Reactions that arrive before you can think.
  • Knowing the story and still not being able to talk about it.

How trauma is worked with here

01

Safety before story

Nothing is opened before there is enough steadiness to hold it. You control the pace, and stopping is always allowed.

02

Body and mind together

Somatic work addresses the alarm the nervous system is still running. CBT gives you a way to work with the thoughts built on top of it. Mindfulness practice makes both usable outside the room.

03

The generational layer

Where a pattern started before you did, that is named. Ending it with you is treated as legitimate clinical work, not a metaphor.

From surviving life to intentionally living it.

Questions people ask

Do I have to describe what happened?
No. Trauma work does not require retelling the event in detail. Somatic and mindfulness approaches can address what the body is holding without a full narrative.
How long does trauma therapy take?
It depends on what you are carrying and what you want to change. Direction and progress are reviewed with you out loud rather than left open-ended.
Is this available by telehealth?
Yes, for anyone physically located in Delaware. Swiyah is licensed in Delaware only.
