Help the next generation grow.
They say is failing to plan is planning to fail. Set them up to win.
They say is failing to plan is planning to fail. Set them up to win.
Often we keep things going 'till we simply cannot anymore. But what if you and future generations could make conscious choices to have the incredible life that right now seems only imaginary?
A lot of families have these issues working against them:
- Family lies
- General cures
- Family traditions
These problems impact people and, finally, move the nation. Let me explain how.
When families don't speak truthfully on that alcoholic, abusive uncle to protect him. All groups are impacted from his abuse. Children learn that lies, deceit, and manipulation are natural behaviors. But then, that uncle has a reaction due to clouded judgement from alcohol that cause jail time or death, teaching kids that's the end of the journey and, maybe, the only way of living. I know it may seem far fetched because this is a hypothetical situation, but that's how it goes in reality.
Many families and communities support micro infraction of decisions 'till something horrible happens. Although addiction has been in every generation before them (some controllable with small choices and knowledge), they prefer to cut the conversation off as it's uncomfortable for all.
But nothing is more uncomfortable that prison, a love one's death, and the feeling of wasting your time on earth.
How to start that important conversation?
Use a genogram, a visual representation of family members and how they are connected.
Genogram shows you your family patterns to help you knowingly accept or change them. Through symbols and codes guides, you can identify attachments, equity, gender, sexuality, abuse, and violence issues.
Sometimes, we have common toxic behaviors similar to our parents and/or generations before us. Some of these can be in our DNA or learned by imitation, including violence and trauma cycles. Identifying and improving these problems will impact generations to come.
When I think of discipline, it reminds me of the cycles in action: you, as a parent, can't be mad at your child for fighting with his/her classmates if you, at the same time, beat him/her for his/her mistakes. Whether you agree or not with beating, learned behaviors are real. It's hugely probable that your child becomes a future beater or has difficulties with violence.
Your child it's an individual, but also, it's part of the collective. He/She learns from the system many other behaviors and ways of thinking that could reinforce inadequate practices. So, if you choose to develop your consciousness of the problems that have impacted your kid's growth, you can break the impact of toxic behaviors by knowingly changing.
Here are some examples of genograms:
