Speak life, words can hurt.

speak life

When things don't go as planned many have back ground thoughts of not doing anything right.

Thoughts such as "I am not good enough." They may also have thoughts of being a "mess up." The language may change but it has the same background cause for most of us.

Our parents usually are the originators of these thoughts.

Let me explain. As children we ran around, played peacefully naïve to what's going on in the world. We spent our time trying new things, exploring. I had a friend who used to make kool aid in the toilet.... she's a doctor now. Many of us loved our mud pies with our green grass fries. Those backyard meals were great. This is probably just a little example of some of the things children have tried. As children explore the world to learn they are receiving messages from the world. Many of us still hold these experiences in our subconscious. This means when our parents catch us eating mud pies and/or making kool aid in the toilet stopping us with the normal response of "you crazy kids" leaves a message. For example being a mess up. To make it deeper some adults can't remember the words that were said but they can remember the feelings they felt. This affects their adult life and choices.

When you identify those thoughts what can you do?

You can write a letter to your younger self.

(Comforting yourself as you would like your parents to do)

You can write a letter to your parents

(Explaining your feelings and releasing those emotions)

Here is an exercise:

  • Find a relaxing position
  • Take 5 deep breaths
  • Imagine your parent then have the understanding supportive conversation with them you need.
  • At the end of the conversation you remind yourself and then that they parented from their own experiences give them a hug and shrink them in your heart.

This visualization helped me greatly. I will drop a video to share from Louise Hay.

As we get older and create adult relationships we must ensure that those closes to us are speaking life into us. These Relationships should support your growth and be part of your value system. This does not mean you won't have disagreements it does mean your relationship is rooted in love and support. Where you both can be emotionally healthy.
